Using Your Powers is All About Taking Action, but not just Any Kind of Action - Aligned Action.

What is Aligned Action? and What is the Difference between Aligned and MisAligned Action?

Aligned Actions are Taken + Motivated by an Emotional State that Supports You + What You Want .

Oftentimes we take action Motivated by a Feeling of Urgency + Stress + Fear of the consequences “if we don’t take action”. Those Are MisAligned Actions.

What we tend to not realize is that those ” if I don’t….whatever…(enter worst case scenario here) could happen” statements that appear in our heads are the very sign that Most Likely you won’t allow that to happen, So. Why Use It As your Motivation? It doesn’t Make You Feel Good.

Wouldn’t it be *so much* Better if you Used Supporting Yourself + Your Desires as the Motivation Behind the Actions in Your Life?!?

When you Make The Decision To Align With Your Every Action, They become So Much More Powerful because with Each One of Them You Are Now Supporting Who You Are + Your Intentions + Desires - Now Every One of Your Actions is bringing you Closer To All of It.

When you take MisAligned Action - motivated by Feelings that Don’t Bring You Closer to The Ones you are trying to Achieve- it feels like a Struggle to get even the simplest things done.

That is because Aligned Actions are As Constructive As MisAligned Actions are Disruptive. The Same that Aligned Actions will take you closer on Every Level to the Realization of Your Intentions + Desires, MisAligned Actions will Discourage + Distract + Delay You from the Realization of Your Intentions + Desires.

But you’ve got Tools to Work With, Ways to Align Yourself + Actions + Thoughts + Emotions with What You Want.

Your Powers Are The Tools You’ve Got as a Human Being to Face and Go through Life and its Tests + Challenges.

These Powers or Tools aren’t something we’ve been necessarily Encouraged to give too much thought to in this Civilization + Culture we live in - but we are collectively paying more + more attention to this Side of Ourselves as times goes by, because we are beginning to realize how ignoring our Powers and Under·playing + Under· utilizing Them Makes No Sense.

Your Powers Have Always Been There, they are Intrinsically a Part of Who You Are and they are there for you To Use + To Serve You in Your Life Experience.

We just aren’t used to fully Embracing + Leveraging Them for our own Good + Benefit.

It’s All a Matter of Habit. We are creatures of Habit, it is How Our Brains Work. We Establish Emotional + Thought + Action Patterns or Habits since we are very little - based on What We Are Told + What We Observe + What We Experience. These Patterns of Emotion + Thought + Action Become Our Personalities + Beliefs + Perspectives + Realities, They Become our Everyday Lives.

When You Find Yourself Wanting To Be Different or Live Differently in Any Way - A Revolution of Consciousness is Necessary - But it does not need to be Violent or Abrupt, it can be as easy as Softly Establishing a New Habit of Looking or Dealing with Things that CounterActs The Habit You Wish To Change.

A Lot of Times when we want to change we Focus Too Much on Ridding Ourselves Of Our Old Ways or Habits, and it becomes A Hard Task.

It’s a good example of MisAligned Action. By Focusing mainly on What Needs to Be Changed or What You Don’t Like you Aren’t Really Supporting Your Own Decision To Change.

It is Much Easier to Consistently Establish New Good Feeling Habits and pay the Least Attention Possible to your Old Habits, until your New + Better Habits Take All of Your Attention + The Old Ones Just Fade Away.

To Deactivate Old Thoughts + Emotions + Beliefs + Patterns that No Longer Serve You - Patiently + Consistently Establish Counter Habits Until the Old Ones Disappear. Revolutionize Your Life Little by Little, One Habit At A Time.

We are all special, in the sense that we all have our own unique consciousness, our own perspective, our own dreams, ideas, desires.

The biggest part of you is the one that you probably never talk about and the one you couldn’t really explain. It’s the big you, the inner true you, your soul.

You have feelings and they are you guidance. They tell you whether or not your focus is upon things that are what you really want to be focusing on.

See, the big part of you knows what you’ve been experiencing, what you’ve been thinking, what you’ve been wanting in your life, what you need to do, where you need to go…

There is some traditions that encourage you to eradicate desire.

I say desire is the most essential part of our being.

We live through our experiences and out of every experience are born one or thousands of desires. We desire more or less of this and that, we desire that the next time we have an experience like this it’d be more like this or that…we arrive to new conclusions, new preferences. This mechanism is always working in your life, always determining your new preferences and desires.

You can always trust yourself to know what is good for you.

Only…no one tells you so.

The people that care about you: parents, teachers, partners, friends… are for the most part well-meaning people and want the best for you. But what they consider to be ‘the best for you’ has nothing to do with you, and everything to do with what they would be pleased to see you doing.

When most people tell you what to do and why, they’re more interested in your looking for ways to please them than in your looking for ways to please yourself.

That’s how in their trying to be social most people lose themselves and their true passions, they simply feel persuaded or obligated to ignore their own guidance.

These people usually end up basing their motivations on the attention that is directed at them by other people.

Sometimes it feels really difficult to follow your own guidance in this society, especially as a young person, everyone seems to think they know what is best for you, and you have no idea.

The thing to keep in mind is that most people are only talking from their own position of having shut down their own guidance system.

Sometimes out of respect or the kind of relationship we have with certain people, we allow ourselves to consider and focus our attention on the things they tell us that oppose our goals, dreams and desires. This never helps you or brings you anywhere because it always makes you feel internal discord, which will actually make it more difficult for you to achieve what you want.

There will always be others that disagree with what you are doing or want to do, but when you pay attention to them then you are the one that is disagreeing with your own goals, dreams and desires.

The only way to really gauge the appropiateness or possibility of your desires, dreams or behaviors is to listen to your own guidance system: your emotions.

Pay attention to your feelings and follow what makes you feel good, alive, in tune, in alignment, happy and joyful, because that is who you really are.

There is no reason why your life should go any way but the way you dream it to go.

Sure there will be tons of things that happen to you along the way that will seem like you neither planned nor wanted, but the truth is that we all end up living what we think we’re going to anyway, so it’s just a matter of you really getting it, learning to use and live with this knowledge and doing it purposefully.

See, when you don’t feel the calling to do something, then you look at it and consider it from a whole different perspective than the person that feels a passionate and compelling pull to do that same thing.

That’s why when you go up to your parents and tell them about your dreams to be a dog psychologist in Australia they can’t help but feel a bit queasy and tell you all the reasons why it wouldn’t be the right thing for you to do, because from their passionless perspective they just can’t see all the pros of the situation and how they would outweigh the cons for you.

In the end, a lot of times, people that really care about us end up taking a position of passionately opposing our desires, which makes it even more difficult for them to see how it would be a good option for you.

That’s why you ultimately shouldn’t listen to anybody but yourself when it comes to making decisions in your life.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s very important to do a lot of research, to inform yourself about your decisions, so you know what you are getting yourself into ;) but it is a different matter to let yourself be advised about the actual outcome of the situation in a way that you are being told what is right or wrong for you to do.

No one knows what is like to be you, no one is in your head and no one has lived your experiences so no one knows what’s best for you but you.

Remember this applies to other people too. That means, take into consideration that you can easily become ‘the Others’ in this situation.

We’re all part of that big ‘They’ just someone else’s.

That’s why whenever someone asks me for advice on any given topic I always end up talking to them about bigger or more general things that their specific choice or decision, I talk to them about how they have guidance that can help them much better than me.

You are truly your best friend, in every way, if you just got to know yourself better, you’d realize it right away.

Do you know how many hours do you spend every week watching news on T.V. or reading the paper?

A couple of years ago I decided that I was spending way too much of my energy & attention on getting “informed” about the happenings in the world.

During my teens I got in the habit to watch the news a couple times a day and read the paper, or at least scan it.

This seemed to be what grown ups did, and I was ready to be one.

After following events like September 11th, Afghanistan’s bombings, Tsunamis, March 11th, Katrina , etc. on TV news stations and papers I had finally realized that most of the time the overwhelming amount of information I was getting was driving me crazy, rather than making me feel more empowered or educated, which is what I thought being informed and being a grown up was about.

I wanted to know and care so much about every thing that was supposedly going on that I often overlooked the fact that, according to the news & the paper good things hardly ever happen, and when they do they tend to be dorky little things, which aren’t really news at all.

It’s not that I don’t want to be informed, I just don’t want to focus my attention on the bogus that they call ‘news’ these days.

Another thing I realized, as I started to pay more attention to my thoughts and my beliefs and the way they affect and shape my reality, is that most of the time, the news & the papers were manipulating my attention.

Watching & reading the news, most of the time makes you feel like you live in a tough cruel world, where things aren’t fair & there are very few good things happening. And if that’s what your predominant perspective you will see more and more evidence of how the world really is that way everywhere you go. It becomes your concept of “reality”.

The reason I decided to kick my old habit and start a new one that served me better is because I realized that even though there are horrible things happening in this world, in this country, in this state all the time, if I’m not affected by them or I can do something about them, it doesn’t really help for me to be feeling as awful as the people directly affected are feeling.

In my eyes, it is a bigger & more valuable contribution to this world, for me to be a happy, hopeful & positive member of society ready to get involved & help those around them, than being someone that knows in every sort of detail why this world isn’t working & yet feels completely disempowered to do anything about it.

My new & better habit: I subscribed to Time magazine. I thought a weekly news magazine would cover everything major that I would want to know about and would keep me informed without overwhelming me, plus it is delivered to my door every week! Also, I still check the news online once in a while & keep up with Current TV.

All in all, I feel so much more positive these days than I ever did back when I watched the news & read the paper obsessively. My conversations no longer revolve around current events, or the decay of our planet. You’d be amazed how many arguments you avoid. It’s been working out for me, I might be naive, or in some people’s eyes uninformed or ignorant, but it is by choice, and it keeps me happy, now it’s so much easier for me to see that things are getting better everyday!

We live in the most exciting and fabulous time in history! You wouldn’t want the news to let you overlook that, now would you?

There comes a time in your life when your opinions and/or beliefs are no longer more important than that you feel good.

Life is supposed to feel good on every level and we all know it deep down.

Many times we discard this option because we believe it to be impossible, or rather, our set of beliefs rule it out as impossible.

The turning point comes when you realize your own views, opinions, perspectives or beliefs about the world and life rule you out as impossible.

So many of us spend our lives driven by a desire to be someone we’re not, someone that only exists in our heads as some ideal version of us. We spend our adult lives domesticating ourselves into behaving and being who we have come to believe we should be. Or maybe, who we think we can get away with being.

There is a wider world of opportunities in there than we are willing to recognize. We are free because we can choose the thoughts that we pay attention to, we can control what we focus on.

It can be easy to change your perspective so it serves you. Like most things in life it’s more a matter of practice than anything else. Life can start looking brighter and opportunities can sprout for you everywhere and you can be happy to be you.

Just try to notice how you perceive the world to be, the things you usually consider “obvious” , “givens” ,”rules of thumb”, or “common sense” are the ones you want to pay the most attention to. Any thought that makes you react with a “that’s just how things are whether I like it or not” feeling.

Notice how these thoughts, these beliefs affect the way you feel about yourself, your life, your surroundings, opportunities….

If you realize that the way that you’ve been looking at things, the chances for you to be truly happy, fulfilled & joyus are very slim, or almost a joke then changing your life perspective could have ASTRONOMICAL effects on your life.

How do you do that?

How do you change your perspective on anything?

How do you change a belief or thought pattern?

Well it isn’t something you can do in a single action. It’s a process. But a simple one at that.

1.

Identify the belief , the pattern of thought that is at the core of this perspective or view.

(Ex:You feel like you will never be able to do work that fulfills you in every way.Belief: Work isn’t for your enjoyment. You work hard to earn a good living.)

2.

Rephrase it in a way that feels better to you, more relieving. Also make sure it is a positive statement.

(Ex: There must be a way I can earn a good living while enjoying myself and having a good time)

3.

Decide that every time you become aware that the old pattern of thought is taking place, you will rephrase it, if possible out loud and several times, until this new pattern of thought becomes more normal and natural than the old one.

Take into consideration that depending on what kind of emotional change comes with that belief a more relieving perspective might be an angry or frustrated one.

If you’ve been looking at something from a numb, depressed, hopeless perspective… looking at it from a perspective of anger or frustration might feel much better to you. And realistically, if that’s how you’ve been feeling, you can’t expect yourself to feel happy, positive and appreciative right away.

Again, remember it is a process.

The secret is to not settle for the comfort of that feeling once it starts to feel limiting or not so good to you again. The secret is to keep reaching for better and more relieving ways of looking at things in your life until everything about you (your opinions, views & beliefs) is supporting the creation of your best life for you, day by day, thought by thought.

Ever since I can remember I’ve been extremely interested in occult, mythical, mystical, magical, supernatural matters. I was always so curious to find out the why’s behind all this secretive stuff. I wanted to know why some people supposedly knew more than others, and I wanted to know why unexplainable things happened. Further more, I think there is always an explanation, even if we haven’t figured it out yet.

This kind of mentality has me reading every book that I find on any of these intriguing subjects. During my childhood these books were mostly fiction. Books on gnomes, witches, fairies, time-traveling…

When I was around 15 though, I started investigating books on what I thought was “real magic” and was very very surprised at my parents and other grown-up’s reactions.

They seemed terrified that I was reading that stuff. And they tried to stop me from doing it in every way they could. They seemed afraid that I was going to be “brainwashed” by these books.

If those books could ‘brainwash’ me, what were they doing to me in school?! I wondered!

Ever since then it’s been very interesting to me to see the reactions people have to these subjects. They seem to mostly fall in three categories: the ones that an uncanny interest for it, like myself. The ones that feel immidiate fear, horror or even panic at the very mention of anything related to it. And then there’s the people that discard it right away as lies, made-up stories or a ways for someone to deceive someone else. Then there’s people that seem to go back & forth.

I consider things like numerology, astrology, tarot cards or palmistry to be fun tools to aid you in your life and guide you. I find that the majority of problems with them lay on the fact that most people go to someone outside of themselves for guidance instead of learning about these practices as tools, and using them to guide themselves from within.

Since these “arts” have been really useful and fun to me in my life and in the development or awakening of my spiritual nature and intuition, I thought I’d start talking about different sides to them here, to share my views on it, the basics of it, and bring greater understanding to these matters.

As with everything else in life, what works for one might not work for another,it’s all a matter of following your instincts, trying things out and doing what helps you most and makes you feel best.

Let’s start with numerology, something very interesting and with a lot of sides to it. I’ve read a fair share about it in my days, and I’ve sort of developed my own way of interpreting and dealing with numbers in my life overtime. That’s what I encourage you to do as well. Read, learn, and then just make your own way as you go.

What is Numerology?

Numerology is any system, method or belief that you apply to the interepretation of numbers in your life or the universe. There is many of them. In general we could say it is the study of the hidden or magical meanings of numbers and of their influence on human life. It is supposed to be a calculative means of obtaining information about one’s character, capabilities & future or destiny.

It is based on the idea that the universe is mathematically constructed and all things can be expressed in numbers which correspond to vibrations. Every word has a number equivalent and that is how things like your name or birth can be interpreted & determine things like your personality, life path or destiny.

What are the origins of Numerology?

Historically there doesn’t appear to be any solid proof as to when or where numerology first originated. The roots of numerology date back thousands of years and variations of it can be found in most civilizations throughout history.

It’s generally accepted that numerology was in use thousands of years ago in China, India, Egypt, Greece and Rome long before the time of Pythagoras, who is is most commonly credited as being “the father of numerology”. He was one of the best known philosophers of his day and very important figure in the development of mathematics. But he was also interested in the concepts or principles behind them. From certain observations in music, mathematics, and astronomy, he believed that all relations could be reduced to number relations. That the entire Universe is composed of mathematical patterns, and that all things can be expressed in numbers that correspond to universal vibrations.

The teachings of Pythagoras were taken up by Plato and reinforced by the writings of the Jewish Kabbalah. Although little can be confirmed about Pythagoras directly, his teachings spawned a philosophical and religious movement, called Pythagorism, that spread throughout the Roman Empire. In the Middle Ages, a numerical mysticism evolved from the teachings of Merkabah, a sect of Judaism. In the 13th century the German Kabbalists developed gematria, a mystic numerical interpretation of the Scriptures. Continued interest by early Christian scholars, such as St. Augustine, led to the widespread use of numerology during the Renaissance.

That’s how numerology became a system for both divination and magic based upon the concept that the entire universe is composed of mathematical patterns, and all things can be expressed in numbers which correspond to universal vibrations. Therefore, all things, including names, words, birth dates and birthplaces, are able to be reduced to numbers in order to determine personalities, destinies and fortunes of individuals.

Methods of Interpretation in Numerology

The three most popular methods in use today are : the Chaldean numerology, the Kabbalah numerology system and of coarse, the Pythagorean.

1. Pythagorean Numerology:

* By far the most popular and widely used system by modern numerologists in the west. Part of its popularity arises from the fact that it is easy to learn, understand & practice.

* It was created by Pythagoras and has been used since about 600BC, however it may not have been used to do numerology readings originaly but was rather a way of doing early mathematics.

* It analyzes both the name and date of birth, and the interaction between the two.

* It uses the numbers 1 through 9, known as as “core” numbers & 11, 22 known as “Master Numbers”. Any other numbers are ‘reduced’ to one of these by first adding up the individual digits.

* There are five primary numbers. Two can be derived from your birthday and the other three from your full birth name. There’s also a sixth number, which is considered secondary.

1. The Soul Number : Describes what you feel inside. And talks about your relationship with yourself. People may not see this part of you. It is what your soul is calling you to be.

2. The Personality Number : Describes how people will perceive you. It is what you show the world.

3. The Power Name Number: Describes the strength of your name.

4. The birth day number: Describes the way others see you.

5. The life path number : Considered the most important, describes the path your life is “destined” to take. The first step to analyze a person.

6. The attitude number: Considered secondary.(but still important) .It describes your general attitude toward life. If your Attitude Number is not in harmony with your Life Path Number, then you will confuse the people in your life. All of these are meant to offer insight into who you are and how you can improve your life.

* Each letter of the alphabet has a numerical value which ranges between one and nine.

* To calculate your life path number “reduce” to a “core” or “master” number your date of birth arranged in order mm/dd/yyyy.

* To calculate your soul number “reduce” to a “core” or “master” number the vowels in your full name.

* To calculate your personality number “reduce” to a “core” or “master” number the consonants in your full name.

2. The Kabbalah numerology system:

* To word Kabbalah means : “to receive knowledge that comes through the mind and soul rather than through a flesh and blood teacher”.

* The Kabbalah’s origins lie in ancient Hebrew mysticism.

* The Kabbalah numerology system does not take into account the numerical value of the birthday but only the person’s name.

* This system is based on the Hebrew alphabet, which means it has only twenty-two numerical vibrations. These vibrations range from 1 to 400.

* Originally developed on the basis of Hebrew alphabet, the Kabbalah Numerology later adapted to Greek and Roman alphabet in time.

* Many numerologists do not consider it accurate because it does not consider name and birth dates together, it only focuses on the calculation of the name in question.

3. Chaldean numerology:

* Also known as “Mystic Numerology” because it is a much more spiritual method than the rest.

* Probably the oldest system of numerology known.

* It originated in Babylonia at the mouth of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers near the Persian Gulf.

* The numbers assigned to the letters are determined by vibrational value instead of alphabetical order.

* It works with numbers 1 through 8.

* No alphabet letter is assigned to the number 9. The Chaldeans considered the number 9 to be holy & sacred and thought it should be held apart from the rest.

* Analyzes both name and date of birth.

* It bases your date of birth number on the day of the month you were born. Your birth number is considered most important because, unlike your name which can be changed, it is constant.

* Rather than analyzing your birth name, uses only the name you are most known by.

* Single and compound numbers are of equal importance.

* It splits an individual’s influences and spiritual aspects into two areas: the inner self and the outer self. They used single digits to represent the inner and double digits for the outer.

* It is considered to be more accurate the the Pythagorean system, however, it is less popular because it is more difficult to master since it’s not as systematic when it comes to the vibrational value of letter.

* Readings through the Chaldean system have a much more metaphysical or occult essence to them than the other methods.

I see the same sequence of numbers all the time everywhere, what do they mean?

The biggest way in which I use numerology in my life is interpreting “signs” I get in the form of repeated number sequences. I think this happens to a lot of people.

They say that the universe, god, or your guardian angels,(however you want to refer to it) are always looking out for us and try to communicate with us in subtle ways everyday. One of these ways is by putting number sequences in your reality repeatedly so you will notice.

When this happens to you, the first thing to take into consideration is what that number means to you, but if you feel clueless, here’s what common number sequences may mean:

111 - Monitor your thoughts carefully, and be sure to only think about what you want, not what you don’t want. This sequence is a sign that there is a gate of opportunity opening up, and your thoughts are manifesting into form at record speeds. The 111 is like a snapshot of your thoughts that manifest into form quickly. It’s a good way to see if you are manifesting what you want. If you aren’t satisfied, correct your thoughts.

222 -This is a sing of confirmation that you are on the right path, doing the right thing and going in the right direction. Your new ideas are beginning to take roots into reality. Keep thinking about them and nurturing them, and soon you will see evidence of your manifestation. In other words, don’t quit five minutes before they come to life. Your manifestation is soon going to be evident to you, so keep up the good work! Keep holding positive thoughts, keep affirming, and continue visualizing.

333 - This sign indicates that your thoughts and feelings are in alignment with who you really are . It could be interpreted as a Cosmic “Yes!” to questions you have been asking or ideas you may have.

444 - Don’t worry because there is help nearby and you are being taken care of. You are being protected. Everything’s good.

555 - A major life change is upon you or a life changing thought or event has just occurred. This change should not be viewed as being “positive” or “negative” since all change is but a natural part of life’s flow. Perhaps this change is an answer to your questions,in any case your life path direction has just changed and it’s time for you to change too. Move with it and follow those thoughts.

666 - Your thoughts are out of balance right now, focused too much on the material world due to mental or emotional imbalance. This number sequence indicates your thoughts are not clear and you should not continue with this train of thought. Let it pass.

777 - This sign indicates that a lesson has been learned. It is a sign of acknowledgment and achievement. Keep up the good work and know your wish is coming true. This is an extremely positive sign, you’ve learned something important about your life and it means you should also expect more good things to occur.

888 - A phase of your life is about to end, and this is a sign to give you forewarning to prepare. This number sequence may mean you are winding up an emotional, career, or relationship phase. It also means there is light at the end of the tunnel. In addition, it means the crops are ripe. Don’t wait to pick and enjoy them! In other words, don’t procrastinate making your move or enjoying the fruits of your labor.

999 - Completion. This is the end of a big phase in your personal or global life. Our thoughts at the time of seeing this sing indicate that these thoughts will bring about the completion or end of a phase in your life.

000 -It is a sign that a situation has gone full circle. You are in alignment with who you really are and who you really want to be.

121, 112, 1221, 2121, 2211, 1122 - If you are repeatedly seeing combinations of 1’s and 2’s, this is a message that our thoughts are like seeds that are beginning to sprout. You may have already seen some evidence of the fruition of your desires. These are signs that things will and are growing in your aspired direction.

1234 - If you are repeatedly seeing ascending number sequences such as 1234, this is a sign for you to make progress. You will see this sign when thinking about an area of your life that you are concerned about and want to change. Seeing this number sequence immediately after these thoughts is a sign that this is the right course of action for you and you will have the support you need in its pursuit.

321 - If you are repeatedly seeing descending number sequences such as 321, this is a sign that your thoughts are regressive. You will see this sign when you are thinking about an area of you life or course of action. Seeing this number sequence immediately after such thoughts is an indication that your life will take a step backwards if you follow the course of action you are considering.

In my personal opinion, numerology like everything is part of a conversation between your universe and you. So the numbers that show up in your life in the way that they do only have a certain meaning to you.

We often assign meanings to numbers in our lives almost without realizing .As so many countries have agreed to the STOP sign’s meaning, and every time you see it, you take it as what it means, you can do the same with certain symbols, numbers or signs in your life. Sometimes you do it consciously and sometimes you don’t.

If our whole lives we’ve been believing that every time we see X number something awesome or extraordinary happens to us, it ends up being that way. I don’t believe that the number makes anything happen, but that your reality lines up so that number shows up around you right before certain kinds of events are about to happen. It’s like a pattern is being established. That’s why I consider them signs or a ‘heads up’.

If you decide to be a deliberate creator of your reality, by choosing your thoughts and the subjects and things you focus your attention on, then you might want to start giving meanings to numbers or combinations of numbers purposefully in order to get better clues from the Universe.

The same way we agreed upon the STOP sign you can create a symbol and agree that it means something specific to you in your life. People do it all the time, they create logos, amulets, signatures, they make up words…Everytime you see that symbol, it will mean that something to you. That is a great tool of communication between you and your universe, which is always pushing you to go in the direction of who you really are.

I encourage you to think about how this applies to your own life. As I said earlier, we’re used to going to someone (book, person or institution) that will give us guidance and tell us what to do about the situations in our life.

I think that you already have everything you need and all of the answers to all of your questions are within you.

You can play around with these concepts, figure out your life path number or see what number corresponds to your name and what it has to say about you, but remember that what matters most is how these things make you feel when you read them and the things you realize or find out about yourself when you do.

Listening to our own inner guidance isn’t exactly something we’re raised to do.

With the best intentions & following the example they’ve always been taught, the loving adults in our lives, ever since we’re small children, tell us what to do in a way that implies - if it isn’t said directly- that they know better than us. And of coarse, that is true to a certain extent, when you are a child you simply don’t have the maturity or knowledge to get around on your own, but you certainly have inner guidance that tells you what options or preferences are good for you.

We are a born with a selfish desire to feel good. That is what assures our survival. But as we grow up, we learn to always strive to please the people that we care about in our lives, before pleasing or doing what’s best for ourselves. We do it as if it was a symbol of our decency or goodness.

And when we act like the true selfish beings that we are, we feel guilty or make it an excuse to act without care & compassion for others.

I used to think of selfishness as a bad trait myself, because that is the meaning that is attached to it in the world. Selfishness is a negative characteristic, right? but when someone is telling you to stop being so selfish to your own desires, aren’t they really telling you to cater to their selfish desires?

Let’s not confuse selfishness with compassion and care. You can be selfish to your own desires at all times, while taking others into consideration & acting with compassion towards them. You just don’t bend your reality backwards for you to cater to their desires, you bend it backwards to cater to your desires which may include getting along with everybody you care about, and treating people well & with respect, specially those you love.

Be more selfish, it’s the best thing you can do. When you feel like life isn’t giving you enough love, rest, understanding or whatever it might be , be selfish, give yourself some more love, rest & understanding. After all who better than you to know exactly what you need & how you need it?

As the holiday season approaches many of us that live far away go back home to visit family and friends. This can be quite the tricky situation. You’re usually there for a short period of time, you want to get all kinds of things done, see everybody & at the same time do all the homey things that make you want to go back home in the first place.

It can get challenging, so…

Here’s some tips to make it easier for you:

At least a week before leaving let everyone you want to see know that you are going to be back home and for how long, but tell them you’ll get in contact once you’re home to get together. This way they will take you into consideration when making plans but you won’t be setting anything into stone. You never know how crazy your days will be once you’re back.

Let everybody know what times you usually wake up and take showers. It’s good way to avoid cold showers and being woken up for breakfast at 8am ;)

Go somewhere in your town that tourist books would describe as “indispensable” but where you’ve never been before.

Do something you used to do when you were little and loved, and now you find kind of gross. Do it with a good childhood friend or a sibling for extra kicks :)

Once you’ve gotten a feel of your family’s routine, make sure to assign an hour or two through out the day for you to just chill and be on your own, this will help you in keeping sane and getting along with everybody better.

Make sure to spend one-on-one quality time with those who really matter to you. When you’ve been away for a while, it’s hard to get a grasp of what’s really going on with people if you only see them when they’re around others.

Contribute a dish to every holiday dinner, expand their culinary minds while you make your mom smile :)

When a family member or friend says something stupid/inappropriate/insulting :smile, pretend you didn’t hear them (that means don’t even think about it) turn around and walk away.

Allow your parents to take care of you (it’s nice!) but also surprise them by taking care of random little things (like throwing out the garbage, or emptying/filling the dishwasher) and yourself.Make your bed, keep your room & bathroom clean… we all know that if we don’t do these things, most moms will do them themselves! You want to be a treat for your mom when you come home, not an extra load of chores!

Use the holidays as an excuse to indulge in every unhealthy tradition you love. Just go back to your normal self after New Years!

Ever since I had my first period I knew there had to be another option besides pads & tampons!

Apparently there’s been another option for quite some time, actually. The first menstrual cup was developed in the 1930’s and distributed by several companies. None of the early cups stayed in production for long though, because of advertising restrictions, social taboos on discussing menstruation, the reluctance of women to use an internal device and the fact these products required washing and reuse (in a time when disposable products were becoming available) all had a role in the products not becoming successful. Then the tampon came along and to deal with the fear of touching of the body for insertion they also came up with its applicator, which made the product much more marketable. They even brought out a new marketing strategy that allowed women to take a box of tampons off the counter themselves (placing the money in a tin beside the display), rather than asking the pharmacist for them. It wasn’t until 1987 that “The Keeper”, a rubber menstrual cup, was manufactured in the USA, the first commercially successful menstrual cup, as it is still in manufacture today.

Nowadays there is a number of brands that specialize in menstrual cups. There is two types available : a bell-shaped 2 inches long (5cm)

menstrual cup with a tab or stem at the bottom, which usually lasts up to 5 years ;and a disposable menstrual cup that looks similar to a contraceptive diaphragm, about 3 inches (7.5 cm) in diameter

I have tried a both types, and the one that has truly changed my life & I go around recommending to any female that will listen is The Diva cup, which falls in the first category.

This is what their website has to say about it:

The DivaCup is a non-absorbent menstrual cup that simply collects menstrual flow. It is inserted in the vagina and sits at the lower base of the vaginal canal. It is worn internally, yet because it is soft and smooth, it cannot be felt nor will it leak when inserted properly.

The DivaCup is the most clean and convenient method of feminine hygiene protection. No need to touch the flow. It is worn low in the vagina, not near the cervix, so it is easy to remove. No mess!

The DivaCup ends hassles with unreliable disposables in endless absorbencies, shapes and styles. It is perfect for all activities “ giving women true freedom without the worry, guessing and unreliability that disposable feminine hygiene products pose.

The DivaCup can be worn for up to 12 hours before emptying, washing and reinserting for use for another 12 hours. It can be used for light or moderate flows and is emptied more often to accommodate heavy flows. Perfect for overnight use.

The DivaCup’s expert, proprietary, patent-pending features make it comfortable and assures ease of use and reliability. Perfect for traveling, running, biking, hiking, dancing, camping, swimming, diving, scuba, yoga, extreme sports and more…”

I have found all of their claims to be true if you learn to place and wear this product correctly. It can take a little bit to get a hang of it, but after some practice, it’s quite easy. The most important thing is to place it in a way that is air tight sealed. If you follow the instructions carefully, it shouldn’t be a problem.

As they mentioned it usually takes up to 12 hours for it to be filled. The cup holds one ounce (30ml). The entire average monthly flow is approximately 1 to 1.4 ounces (30-40ml). By monitoring the fullness of the cup over a couple of periods, you will quickly learn how often to empty it according to your specific needs. If your periods are pretty regular, you can use the Diva Cup before your period begins to avoid “surprises”.Most women, myself included, find that the cup is not even half full after 12 hours. For those with heavier flows, it’s just a matter of emptying it more often. But the cup should always be emptied and washed at least twice a day.

Another thing is that some women find the cup a bit uncomfortable because of the stem or tip, but it has a simple solution : trim it a bit with scissors and it should keep working just fine.

You don’t need to take your Diva Cup out to go to the bathroom, however, you should always take it out before having sex. You should never use it as a birth control method, or as prevention against STD’s.

The Diva Cup is available in two different sizes, a smaller one for women who haven’t had any children or are under 30 years old, and another slightly wider one for women who have gone through labor or are older than 30 years old.

*******

One of the most interesting things about this process is how out of touch, as women , we are from what really goes on during our periods. In the beginning it was really surprising to me to realize not only how different the blood looked than the one I am more “used” to, but also how little I actually bleed. I realized that while using tampons & pads I had a completely unrealistic view of my period.

All these things make the Diva Cup a whole different way to experience your period. In my opinion, it’s more raw & real & natural and even though the first couple of times I felt sort of uncomfortable or grossed out, soon I developed a completely different relationship with the whole thing than I had previously

*******

The Diva cup is made by the Canadian company Diva International. Run & founded by two women Francine & Carinne Chambers (mother & daughter) that decided 15 years ago to resurrect the 75 year old menstrual cup concept because they recognized a need to provide an alternative to unreliable and bad for the environment pads & tampons. Francine & Carinne first were involved with a rubber/latex version that they sold for 10 years doing marketing and sales for the company that made them. Finally in 2003 they decided to start Diva International Inc.and develop a modern redesign, made from soft, top-quality silicone, to meet the needs of today’s woman. It brings me great pleasure to support a company like this because as many of you may know, most “female hygiene” products are made by brands led and owned by men! And also because in this day and age making responsible consumer decisions will make a huge difference in the future of our planet and choosing every month to use this more environmentally friendly option can be an easy way to contribute.

Not every woman can afford a hybrid car nor easily convert their home to solar power. Yet, by choosing to use a menstrual cup instead of disposable tampons and pads, any woman is able to make an environmentally responsible choice each month. This is no small matter. In the U.S. alone, billions of tampons and pads are dumped into landfills and the environment each year.” Carinne Chambers

With all the state-of-the-art conveniences Western society has developed, it baffles us why outdated feminine products are still being used. We believe that reusable menstrual cups are the next generation of feminine hygiene because they are the most environmentally responsible choice. They are also the most convenient and reliable option available and are not linked to Toxic Shock Syndrome.” Francine Chambers.

You can usually find the Diva Cup at health food stores or alternative medicine shops, you can see if there’s store that carries it near you here and you can also buy it online here .

It is usually more pricey than what we are used to paying for something to deal with our periods, (retail price is usually $30) but it is definitely worth it !

You can do the math and see that in a few months you will have made your money back!

Diva International recommends that the Diva Cup be replaced annually or when the silicone material is compromised in any way . Of coarse, proper care and cleaning of the Diva Cup will assure its best performance, and there’s even a special soap formula they offer The DivaWash to mantain the integrity of the silicone material. It is also very important to carefully follow the cleaning instructions in order to assure that the cup is clean and without soap residue.

I’ve heard from other females that if taken care of properly and washed with The DivaWash it can last up to 5 years, but ultimately, it is a woman’s personal decision as to when to replace her menstrual cup.

I’ve personally gotten all of my girlfriends into it, I even give it to people as christmas and birthday presents!

Extra-cool things about the Diva Cup:

It comes with a silky little bag to store it in.

The Diva Cup comes with measuring marks if you ever have any issues with your reproductive system, your gynecologist, physician, naturopath or acupuncturist will often ask about your menstrual flow and change of menstrual flow to determine if these problems have to do with your overall health, hormones, fertility issues, ect.

The other day while I was doing some chore , I was thinking about compliments and I realized that I compliment people on a regular basis, quite a bit. Which got me asking myself why…

The first conclusion that I came to, is that my complimenting isn’t really an outward action. Meaning, it’s not something I do for others as much as I do it for myself.

When I was a week shy from 19, I got my first tattoo, as a commitment to myself to be happy.

Happiness is a state of being, and it is a conscious choice that you make all day everyday.

This commitment required me to investigate and dwell on those things that made me happy about life, to counteract all the things that well, didn’t.

Every time I look at my tattoo, I think about who I was when I got it, and who I had been vs. who I am now.

The difference is that now , I do what it takes for me to be happy. And that means I focus on all the things, small or big, epic or insignificant, dorky or awesome, that make me smile, giddy, giggle, warm & fuzzy, slightly happy or just ecstatic with joy.

And that, a lot of the time translates into me complimenting your hair, because it makes me so happy to see your hair beautifully blowing in the wind with the light shining on it and bringing out all kinds of wonderful otherwise-invisible colors ! And I tell you and the way you smile and blush a little , really warms my heart and makes me feel even happier!

That’s why I compliment so much, and that’s why you should too!

I know a lot of people who used to be on the ·Frequent·Complimenters·Club· that shied away from it after “bad experiences”.

Usually these bad experiences consist on them not feeling reciprocated in their attitude, comments, and gestures of love and complementation towards others.

If you surround yourself with the same circles of people for years and you realize one day that no one ever seems to point out (or even notice) anything nice about anybody else except you, you can easily develop feelings of resentment and feel like you’re (insert favorite insult) for ever complimenting anybody or being nice at all.

Or …

you could realize, that by complimenting people that are rarely ever complimented, and who rarely compliment others you are almost guaranteed to inspire some kind of reaction within them when and if you do.

You might make them feel very good, and put them in a good mood the whole rest of the day. Or you could make them question what’s up with you & your intentions behind your compliment. Which sooner or later will lead them to realize that you were just acknowledging something delicious about them that day…

and might make them look at humanity in general with different eyes, question whether they’ve got everyone figured out or not.

Any way you look at it., complimenting is a wonderful way of celebrating anything or anyone you encounter in your way who helps you feel happy and joyful to be in this world & to be able to enjoy little or big things along your way.

On the more metaphysical side of things, since we’re all energetic magnets, when we acknowledge and focus on positive things or things that makes us feel good, we inevitably “attract” more things that makes us feel good and that we consider positive.

Something called your RAS or Reticular Activating System plays a big role in all of this. They are a group of cells at the base of your brain stem which help us by filtering the important things from the unimportant so that we can function.

But it does it, based on your beliefs, which are your predominant thoughts or impressions about life and what happens to you.

So your RAS help you see around you more of what you’re thinking about or focusing on. It makes you aware of things that might have been there all along that are perfect opportunities, treats or sources of joy for you and you just “couldn’t” see before, because your senses were already overwhelmed assimilating those more negative or dull things you were focusing on more before.

Your RAS can make things easier for you like when you find yourself in a crowded place and you can barely hear what the person next to you is saying, but the moment someone yells your name-even if they’re far away- you ears immediately pick it up.

Or it can make it more difficult like if you are constantly thinking & talking about how so-and-so never treats you well enough(even if it might be so), then your RAS will help you see more evidence of that being true as well.

So it’s really up to each of us to decide what we focus on, what we think and talk about, what we make “important” for our RAS so it shows us more of it everywhere we go.

So go out & compliment somebody, or stay in and compliment yourself!

Just give it a try, see what happens when you acknowledge out loud whenever you see or come in contact with something or someone you love!

You can start right now by commenting on this post ;)
